Reflections on 2020 and our notes of thanks

In a year where most everyone has experienced some form of change, hardship or anxiety about what is next, the KimbleCo team is grateful for our families, friends and clients. In this season of Thanksgiving, we share with you our thoughts on 2020 and what we are most thankful for this year.

As I reflect, I continue to circle back to words of wisdom I recently heard, “What if we look back on this year and realize it was actually one of the best years ever?” Given that so many have experienced significant loss, this was really something for me to ponder. But what if in retrospect it is the best because of these the possibilities:

  • The tragic George Floyd incident inspires real, heartfelt and permanent change,

  • The coronavirus brought us the realization of what is important —

    • Relationships - family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, community, church

    • To understand the joy of slowing it all down

    • To learn we are resilient and can pivot, transform

    • Never to take for granted time with each other again,

  • We understand that words matter. That we need to treat others as we wish to be treated.

Take a minute to look at what we have learned in our most recent blog post.

And at this time of Thanksgiving, I want to give thanks to:

  • God, for continuing to bless me even when I don’t deserve it

  • My family and friends for loving me and accepting me for who I am and where I am along life’s journey

  • Ericka and Kate for being the most amazing individuals who inspire me by their outlook each and every day

  • For our clients who put their trust in us and allow us to do what we love to do. We are truly blessed by the people we get to work with.

And we love that there is real estate everywhere and we are thankful that this mean our peers in the industry get to be successful, too. It seems there are enough companies and commercial real estate to go around to ensure everyone can enjoy success. Looking forward to 2021 and the promise that it holds.

Well, 2020 wasn’t what we had anticipated. We missed weddings, family vacations and business has pivoted somewhat. Although it was a year filled with fear, anxiety and uncertainty, it also forced us to slow down and re-prioritize. Like teenagers getting grounded and slowly getting our liberties back, we learned what we need to live a life of pleasure, and what we can do without while still being fulfilled.

I am grateful that I can get out and be physically active whether I am in the gym or on a trail. I am grateful for the strength my family’s health, both physical and mental. The connections to my friends and family have gotten stronger as we continue to check on each other and find creative ways to stay connected and make sure we laugh. I also discovered how grateful I am to enjoy my work. To be able to get up in the morning looking forward to connecting with my teammates and serve our clients has makes a world of difference. So, in a nutshell, I am grateful for good health, good friends and family, and to work with two women that keep me motivated and inspired every day. And so, we give thanks!

What a year we have had! 2020 has been unexpected and sad in so many ways but also wonderful. I am a positive person by nature, so I have really tried to focus on the innovation and new ideas that are coming out of the circumstances we have been given this year – both professional and personal. Knowing my family and I have largely escaped the true tragedies 2020 doled out to so many, I am first and foremost thankful for that, for them, that we are healthy and that we have gotten to spend more time together.

In addition to my first priority – my family – these are just some of the things I am so grateful for during this season of Thanksgiving:

  • Healthcare and congregate care workers – wow – talk about superheroes! So very thankful for them.

  • My extended family and friends – where would we be without them? So fortunate to have such wonderful people in my life and as my family/friends/neighbors.

  • Coworkers and colleagues – many of whom fit in the sentence above. What a gift it is to be able to work with people we love, have respect for and that truly bring joy to our lives!

  • Clients – we have had the true pleasure of working with people we really enjoy. So many become permanent friendships which is amazing.

  • Laughter – it truly is the best medicine. Couldn’t get through life, let alone 2020 without it!

  • Innovation and inspiration – I have now lived through several market disruptions and have found some of the most successful ideas and businesses have come out of the ashes of these. The difference is this time I am looking for them and it’s been such a great learning experience. It will be interesting to see what sticks and what won’t.

  • My dogs – for getting me out for walks most days which makes everything feel more normal

  • Podcasts – so much to learn so little time and while I am an avid reader, podcasts make it easier to multi-task

  • Puzzles and Dateline – no explanation necessary!

  • Zoom – a blessing and a curse but allows us to still be able to see body language!

  • Time – this year I have had more time to spend with my husband and kids, we get to stop and enjoy more moments rather than rushing through every day/week/month (though I do miss so many things we used to do) and to really think through things. While I am a mover and advance planner by nature, this pause has allowed me to stop more, think about how we are living and realize the simple pleasures in life!
